ITU

The ITU (International Telecommunication Union) is one of UN’s specialized agencies that commits to interconnecting the whole world with ICTs (Information and Communication Technologies) that was established in 1865. It is becoming an essential part of this globalized society as it plays an indispensible part in promoting fast and wide communication throughout the world. The ITU also aims to bring the benefits of modern communication technologies to everyone no matter wherever they are in an affordable manner. The ITU has three main areas of activity that are divided into sectors: 1. Radio communication 2. Standardization 3. Development. The first sector manages the

International radio frequency spectrum to facilitate growing communication services through satellites. The Standardization sector is what allows one to perform day-to-day communications such as phone calls or Internet. It is fundamental to the operation of ICT networks around the world. The Development sector aims to expand and spread information about ICTs and encourages the developing access to ICTs globally. Furthermore, the ITU holds many international meetings and workshops (most renowned is the ITU Telecom World) which brings many influential representatives from all over the world to discuss ideas and introduce new ICTs.
