UNHCR

The UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees) belongs to one of UN’s specialized agencies that handles refugees all around the world. The destruction brought by aftermath of World War II left many Europeans displaced and in chaos. Luckily, along with the formation of the UN, the UNHCR was established in 1950 to specially take care of these refugees and provide some hope for them. As the conditions in Europe alleviated, the UNHCR proceeded to help refugees around the world such as countries in Africa and the Middle East. Up until this day, the UNHCR continues to raise funds and hold events such as the World Refugee Day to inform more people about the dire conditions of refugees. Furthermore, it seeks to reduce the amount of refugees by providing them with transitory place to stay until they are able to support themselves and find a permanent residence. Although humanitarian plights may never be eliminated, the UNHCR will continue to promote the well-being for all refugees around the world.
